Number of patents
This is a report on the aggregated number of granted patents possessed by SEL. The number of
patents by country of application and the patent share in Japan and the US were counted and shown
by fields SEL is focusing. More than 11,000 patents related to oxide semiconductors, 1,300 patents
related to rechargeable battery, and 5,000 patents related to organic electroluminescence have been
granted worldwide.
We will continue to obtain patents to spread our technology throughout the world.

Oxide Semiconductor
We lead the world in the field of oxide semiconductors such as IGZO.
Rechargeable Battery
In particular, we are obtaining and utilizing important patents in the field of lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2), which is a positive electrode material of lithium-ion batteries used everywhere in daily life.
OLED
We have been conducting basic research in the field of OLED including OLED material design for more than 30 years.
